The Netherlands, or Holland, as it’s also known, is a low, mostly flat land, with a long coastline on the North Sea.
Famed for its windmills, clogs, and tulips, The Netherlands has a lot to offer the tourist, although much of it isn’t always readily apparent.
In springtime, the countryside is awash with colour. This is mostly due to the vast bulbfields that cover the flat fertile soil, but also the equally vast numbers of tourist coaches that come to marvel at them!
Amsterdam itself is a wonderful city to visit, built on a network of canals linked by quaint characteristic bridges. It has superb museums, festivals, and a truly vibrant atmosphere. Amongst the most popular places to visit is the house where Anne Frank hid during WW2.
Elsewhere, The Netherlands are a great place for touring and the flat land is excellent for cycling holidays.
In the south, near Maastricht, the land rises, and there are interesting caves to visit, and the pretty Maas valley.
